I just wanted to write a short article to describe the difference between GMS Discount car pricing and supplier Discount car pricing when it comes to General Motors. Many will say this is simple, but I see the searches of those that are clearly confused.
GM GMS Employee Discount Auto pricing is directly on the invoice of all new vehicles. This is what a GM Employee or a GM Retiree will pay for this vehicle. Please understand that this price does not include any incentives that may be available at that time. You will still qualify for low interest or rebate, whichever you choose to take. The price you purchase at is below invoice so don't try negotiating from that point, it cant be done. You can also use GMS on leasing as it will lower your lease or smart buy payment.
GM Supplier discount is a complimentary discount given to suppliers of GM parts, accessories, etc. You may make a small component for a radio for a GM vehicle, but you may still qualify for GM Supplier discount. Fed Ex employees qualify to receive supplier pricing. This is a price that will also lower your initial cost of ownership whether you are purchasing, leasing, Smart-Buy, Smart-Lease, etc. You will still also receive any rebates and incentives. This only affects purchase price of the vehicle.
Hope this helps to understand the difference between the two. Remember, with either discount program you still receive rebates and incentives unless it's on a new vehicle that is hard to get. Lets say the Pontiac G8, when it comes out there will be no supplier discount, no GMS discount, no discount at all because they are pre-selling. Also, when talking about pep cars which are promotional cars like the ones used in Memphis at the Fed Ex Golf Tournament, GM card earnings may be affected. Many customers wait until the last minute to say "I have GM card earnings." This does not affect us in any way, so I hope you do get GM Card Earnings, but let me know up front so I can make sure we are on a vehicle that qualifies. Pep units usually do not qualify for any additional savings such as GM Card Earnings.
