Shelby Gone Wild: 2012MY GT500 Super Snake with 800HP to be Unleashed at New York Auto Show

1965 Shelby Cobra 427 vs 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia in a $400,000 ¼ Mile Race Bet; Can You Guess Who Wins?

A no-nonsense, classic American muscle car from the 1960s going head to head with a high-tech, thoroughbred Italian supercar in the ultimate quarter mile race. What more could you ask to make this battle more interesting? Well, how about a $400,000 wager?

The story has it that Dan Bilzerian, owner of a ‘tricked-out’ 1965 427 Shelby Cobra, placed a bet that his American muscle car can beat his friend Tom Goldstein's 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia in a quarter mile race.

On March 9, 2011, the two men brought their cars down to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway racetrack and put their money where their mouth is. And no, we won’t spoil the surprise by telling you who won the bet. Video follows after the break.

Multicultural BMW 728i with Shelby Mustang Front and Nissan Skyline GT-R Rear End

You'll be hard-pressed to come across a more bizarre replica than this BMW 7-Series-based model, which was found for sale in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by Carscoop reader Ahmad. If you do, please don’t hesitate to contact us…

Now, what we have here is a BMW E23 model, or to put it more simply, a first-generation 7-Series sedan. To be precise, it’s a 1985 728i that left the Bavarian firm’s factory with a 2.8-liter inline-six gasoline unit delivering 184 horsepower.

For aesthetic reasons us ordinary mortals would find hard to comprehend, the owner of the BMW went and transformed the front-end of the 728i in the likes of a Shelby Mustang, and the rear to imitate the look of a Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. Feel free to check out the rest of the pictures after the jump and have your say in the comments section below.

MotorTrend Pits the Corvette Z06, Shelby GT500 and Nissan GT-R Against Each Other

What weights ten tonnes and costs more than US$240,000? If you said, “a gold plated bulldozer”, you’d be close but no cigar. The answer is three sub-100k supercars: the Chevy Corvette Z06, Ford Shelby GT500 and Nissan GT-R. These three industry titans, with nameplates stretching as far back as the 1960s, were the recent subjects of an epic comparison test by MotorTrend. Here are three would-be-supercars – over 500hp and 3 second 0 to 60 mph times – that don’t command the supercar price tag. Read more »Source URL: https://ashesgarrett.blogspot.com/search/label/Shelby

Home built Shelby Cobra Daytona was made when Shelby sold chassis CSX2130 to an independant racer. I wonder if it was the only one

September 26, 1964 - The annual Autosport Three Hours, at the Snetterton track is the tenth and last round of the British Championship and the fifth time that Ford and Cobra stay eye into eye.
Eventually there are only two Cobras (a Willment Coupe and the HEM-6) at the start and two Ferraris - two LMs: Maranello's for Graham Hill and Piper's.
At the start, with Graham Hill on the pole, it's raining the proverbial cats and dogs.
As the track becomes less like a lake, Jack Sears is able to use some of the power of his Willment Cobra Roadster, passing Roger Mac and taking the lead.

VIDEO: 800 hp Shelby GT500 Blows Up During Dyno Test

We don’t know if this is a factory 800-horsepower Super Snake or a privately tuned GT500, but something went very wrong during this dyno test... It might have happened due to insufficient cooling or a faulty component - we just don't know. Whatever the cause, the owner is one unhappy guy. Follow the break and watch the engine going up in flames and a cloud of smoke.

THE NEW FORD SHELBY GR-1 CONCEPT CAR
    WITH A POLISHED ALUMINUM BODY
    by AUTOart

We are entering into a new standard by launching it first!

The 1:18 scale Ford Shelby GR-1 concept car with a polished aluminum finish.

Our goal for producing this model is to achieve the same finish as of the actual concept car. Very few model makers have attempted to cast aluminum alloy and manually polish the body to achieve the glossy finish, they would normally chrome plate the zinc cast body to simulate the finish.
In order to replicate the polished aluminum finish of the real car, actual aluminum alloy must be used to cast the scale model body. The casting requires more than 130 minutes of highly skilled manual labor to polish the entire body, including the panels of the model, until the glossy finish is accomplished. The challenge is matching the contour between the main body the attached panels, (bumper, bonnets and doors), after polishing. Any slight over polishing of the bonnet and the door edges will make the connecting surface of the main body become uneven and thus would need to be scrapped. Even with skilled precision, the scrap rate is well over 50%. With labor cost on the rise in China, the cost of producing a polished aluminum body is 5 to 6 times the cost of a standard painted body, cast in zinc alloy.
Additionally, in order to simulate the real aluminum texture the finish is purposely not coated with any protective layer, the surface will eventually oxidize and the shininess will decrease gradually within a few months or a year, however, the glossy finish can be easily restored by simply hand buffing the model, using a metal polishing compound.
As with any precious sterling silverware, occasional maintenance is required in order to retain the original glossy finish.
